Abstract

Introduction: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an established therapeutic option for patients with severe aortic stenosis, particularly older adults and those with high surgical risk. Pre-procedural preparation is crucial to reducing complications and optimizing clinical outcomes, with the nursing consultation representing a key component of this process. Evidence indicates that structured nursing interventions enhance patient safety, improve therapeutic adherence, and promote functional recovery following cardiovascular procedures.

Objective: To relate the importance of the pre-TAVI nursing consultation to the clinical evolution data recorded during follow-up (1 week and 1 month), emphasizing the potential health gains for the patient.

Methods: A descriptive analysis was performed using follow-up data from the post-TAVI monitoring table, including symptoms, vital signs, reported complications, functional changes, and subjective perceptions of well-being. These data were interpreted in accordance with international guidelines for cardiovascular nursing best practices.

Results: The records show relevant post-procedural changes, including falls, gait difficulties, lower-limb edema, residual dyspnea, and uncertainties related to self-care. In parallel, many patients reported improved dyspnea, reduced fatigue, and progressive functional recovery. The absence of a structured pre-TAVI clinical baseline limits objective comparison of the observed changes, underscoring the need for pre-procedural assessment. Evidence supports that the nursing consultation can identify vulnerabilities in advance, guide preventive strategies, strengthen health literacy, and improve symptom management, thereby reducing the risk of early complications.

Conclusion: The pre-TAVI nursing consultation is an essential intervention for maximizing health gains. By providing holistic assessment, therapeutic education, and individualized planning, the consultation enhances patient safety, reduces complications, improves autonomy, supports functional recovery, and contributes to better clinical and

patient-reported outcomes. Systematic integration of this practice is strongly recommended to improve the overall quality of the patient’s care pathway.
